Does winter have you down? There’s no need! There’s a lot going on around Orem, Utah, whether it’s winter or summer, and here are some ideas to keep you busy until the sun shines again:
Come to the BYU Museum of Art at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday for Reading Under the Rainbow. Children and adults are welcome, and a member of the museum store staff will read a children’s book under the Plexus no. 29 rainbow installation in the museum’s atrium.
A few minutes from Orem, Utah, you can come to Sundance Resort and get above the clouds. Ladies’ days include clinics for both downhill and cross-country skiing. Cross-country clinics are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. They cost $115 for four clinics, which all include lessons, trail passes, and rental equipment. Downhill clinics are on just Thursdays, through March 30, with group lessons for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. If you have a season pass, you pay $200 for the full day’s lessons; without the pass it’s $260. Discounts are available for groups of four or more.
Get out of the cold in Orem, Utah, with a quick trip to ComedySportz at 36 West Center Street in Provo. Improv comedy shows start at 8:00 and wrap up at 10:15 every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. Advance tickets are $10, or pay $12 at the door, with kids 12 and under $5 either way.
Salsa Chocolate Latin Dancing invites you to get moving and learn some new moves. Every Thursday night they offer a free lesson from 9 – 10 for beginners. More advanced dancers can check out a schedule of lessons in various styles. The cover is $5 as long as you’re there before 10:00 p.m., and the dancing continues until 12:30.
Had your fill of wandering the mall just to get out of the house? Melville Stables, 1920 S. Sandville Rd. in Orem, Utah, invites you to enjoy a free tour at 10:00 a.m. on Saturdays. Melville Stables is one of the nation’s premier horse riding and training facilities. Walk-in visitors are always welcome, as well.
Bring the kids to Thanksgiving Point, just up the road from Orem, Utah, to enjoy Farm Country. Exhibits are open from through March 11 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Kids can pet and feed the animals, and also discover displays and exhibits that teach them about food production and farm life. Live cow milking happens at 4:00 p.m. every day, and admission includes a pony ride. Tickets are $7, and children 2 and under are free. Introduce children to live theater right in Orem, Utah at Scera’s Theater for Young Audiences. On Mondays and Fridays through February 24 you can see an original musical version of Alice in Wonderland. Tickets are $4 – 6. Performances begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Scera Theater (745 South State Street), and end by 8:30.
Sure, the inversion can really start to press you down by February, and your New Year’s resolutions to be active can fade, but these Orem, Utah events and activities can get you through the dark days of winter with a spring in your step.
